M1W2 – Challenge Activity

For week 2 we have been asked to:

Begin this activity by selecting one or more of the ideation techniques discussed this week, then apply them to the following challenge:

1. Choose an existing artefact that is the output of someone’s creativity. This could be a poem, short story, illustration, song or anything else you think is interesting.

2. Modify the artefact in some way using the techniques you selected. The aim is to remediate it into another form of the artefact.

I have to admit I have really struggled with this, and as of Wednesday 3rd February 2021 I have not even started.

I believe the issue here is that I have a real fear of ridicule, and am extremely introverted. Also, the artefacts that have been submitted are all vert art-centric, and my creativity does not lie in this area, and as they say a picture paints a thousand words, so I am worried that whatever I propose will be poor in comparison.

That said, I will try and submit at least something before the end of Friday 5th February 2021.

  1. Hi Francis, I felt exactly the same and as soon as I had posted what I had done, I have been feeling pure anxiety about it. But it is also said that there is no right or wrong answer.

Like I say, I’m not 100% happy with what I did and in all honesty I think mine is the worst of the bunch. However, being a writer it can take me forever to ideate anything so I just had a play around with existing pieces of writing and tried to become more familiar with Opposite Thinking technique although it kind of ventured into a kind of “what if?” method.

I wouldn’t say I remedied the existing work, in fact I definitely made it worse. Coming from a different field than game design, I still feel quite intimidated when it comes to voicing my opinion, I think for now I’m just trying to keep things simple.

Also I’m really enjoying your blog so far, keep it up!
